Beloved Inglewood Trams

On the count down to the launch of Suburban Secrets – Art Trail & History Walk 31st July, I’m posting a week of sneak previews and Inglewood stories. Starting with BELOVED INGLEWOOD TRAMS. Trams were extended into Inglewood on 17 August 1923. A single line from 2nd Ave to 7th Ave. (See above the excitement from the opening celebrations) Extended to Dundas Road 25th August 1929, Salisbury St 19 February 1933, Grand Prom 8 March 1943 (last image and terminus) The final tram in Perth No. 66 and on the Inglewood line was 19 July 1958. You may ask why trams aren’t still rattling up and down Beaufort St? The demise is due to the streets being too narrow to accommodate the increasing number of cars as well.
